What kind of sewing machine do you recommend?
Besides sewing lightweight fabrics, I have to have the ability to sew denim light and heavy cotton. I am also very interested in a recommendation on brands, specific models, accessories, etc, have been found useful. Brands I found locally are singer and Kenmore. All advice and assistance is sincerely appreciated. What I want for beginners sewing: – a machine that does not scare you – a machine that is not stubborn (cheap new machines are often very stubborn or need adjustments often and are rarely repairable – Just too frustrating to learn!) – Very good point of law – good zigzag (4-5 mm is fine, plus c'est la sauce) – A method of making buttonholes that makes sense to you – adjustable presser foot pressure (which helps some handling issues fabric) – Accessories Foot that cost an arm and a leg (machines that use a short shank foot "typically handle generic presser very well. Some brands of machines use very expensive presser or owner) If the budget stretches far enough: – invisible point and points Blindhem Stretch – triple zigzag (Nice for applications Elastic) – a couple of decorative stitches (do not use nearly all I think) – Machine transmission occurring for control of needle position and because the engines step by step will give the full force of drilling "at low speed Sewing – mechanical machines often won at a slow speed. Please go to dealers sewing machine around and best ask to see some machines in your price range, * especially * used machines you can afford. You'll get a better machine and a fixed purchase price of new and used a good dealer is worth its weight in sewing machine needles when you have engine problems – often they can talk with you in the problem by phone. If you try it, try a pair of machines (sewing machines, sewing and Combo-embroidery) over your price limit, just so you can see what the difference in point of quality and ease of use might be. You may find that you want to go for the used Cadillac. Or you may want the new basic Chevy. Might as well try both. Recommended reading: John Giordano's Sewing Machine Book (especially for used machines), Carol Fine Ahle 'sewing machine (especially the first and last chapters) and Gale Grigg Hazen Owner's Guide to sewing machines, sergers and machines knitting. All these elements may be available from your local library. It is used to look for brands including: Elna, Bernina, Viking / Pfaff, Singer (before 1970), Juki, Toyota "brand Husqvarna negotiate," I'll probably take, if new, decent, and the budget has been my choice: Janome (who also Kenmore).
