Screenprinting? Heat Press?
I was wondering if an experienced screenprinter could help me.
I have an inexpensive screen print kit that I bought for my daughter at an art store. We have made aprons and a couple of t-shirts.
I’ve been looking to do my own design transfers and see heat presses. Are these just transfer machines? why would one want a heat press when one can just screen print directly to fabric?
Also, can one screenprint directly to fabrics like a stretchable nylon mesh easily, or does one need heavy duty mfg equipment to do so?
One thin I would like to try with screenprinting is a ‘distressed’ look. I’ve only been able to do my own stencils so far. Is this terribly difficult?

Screen-printing and transfer printing are two different process although they achieve the same result that is decorating fabric based garments. You can screen print on any kind of fabric using the right kind of inks. With nylon use nylon ink. If the nylon fabric is stretchable, use table adhesive when printing on this. You can inquire about these material from screen printing suppliers.
Transfer printing is another process wherein you have to print first on transfer paper via computerized printing and applying the print on fabric. You finish this off with a heat press. There are new generation of printers now that prints directly on t-shirts or fabrics. They really make good prints but are expensive.
