How To Remove Silk Screen Image

How can I restore a vandalized display?

I have a silk-screened display at work that was recently vandalized with permanent marker. You know the deal, someone thinks its funny to draw a mustache on the woman’s face with black ink.
Well they did quite a number on this and my boss says that we either have to repair the display by removing the marker or pay $500CDN for a replacement.
The only method I know of to remove the ink also removes the silk-screened image underneath leaving it stark white.
Does anyone know of a way to remove the marker without harming the display underneath or of a paint that I could use that would be convincing enough to cover up the white but still adhere to the plastic?

It sounds like the marker used was a solvent or spirit based one. These are intended to be permanent, which is why graffiti-minded vandals like using them. As you have discovered they won’t clean off without damaging what’s underneath and there’s nothing you can do about it..
Oil or acrylic based paint would adhere to the plastic, oil would be better but has a slow drying time. Neither would ever look quite right, the painted area will always look obvious, so in the long run it’s better to replace the display entirely.
