How to understand stamp/engraving on jewlery (how many carats etc.)?
I have this tennis bracelet with little diamonds, that I am unsure of how many carats they are etc. I understand the 14k for the gold, but it also has a stamp/engrave that looks like a diamond from a side view, with either a 5 or an s in the middle. Does anyone know what this means? I’m wondering if it’s even worth enough to bother with getting it certified etc. Also how do I find out which jewelers sold it to it’s original owner?
First off, the karrot in gold id a measurement of how pure it is, 24k being 99.9% since gold is a soft metal, other metals are added to it for strength, and afcourse to lower the price. that is why in real good stuff the settings are done in platnum which is a very hard metal.
second, the logo that you are refering to is from a manufacturer, and has nothing to do with the diamands. If the diamands are small, they are very hard to certifie, muchless when they are set. One thing to look at is the clasp on the bracelett. If it is a nice strong box type with a safety chain, then you might have something pretty good, but if it has a smple clasp on it, then probebly less expensive.
third, the karet of a stone is the waight of it not the size, and the karet size doesn’t mean everything, the clairity, and the brillience means alot in what the stone is worth.
If you like it just keep it and enjoy it, if you don’t then worrie about selling it. If you want to get rid of it, there are some things that you can do to find out what it is worth. first go looking for it or something similar to it, and figure about 75% is your value in prestien condition. Get to know a jeweler in your area and ask him/her what they think. Try to find a owner opperator type store, and not a franchise. anather thing is that some places will yake it in on trade, often giving you more then what it is worth for your buiseness.
