Custom Silk Screen T Shirts

How to make custom t-shirts?

I have some iron on transfers but I don’t like them because they leave the extra white part around your design. Besides silk-screening (which seems to require too much equipment and time) are there other ways to make custom t-shirts?

Well, there is the high school classic: a couple of markets and some tightly stretched material.

You can also get the iron on letters or an iron on sheet and cut out the shapes you want.

Try tye-dye! It’s super fun. And I’m using it as a lead in to… batiking! Start light, go dark, and cover anything you want to stay the color you are on at that point with hot wax. It’s a lot of fun and a great art activity for kids. Also works on eggs.

If you are willing to pay through the nose, you can get the shirt made by Cafe Press or some similar thing.

Finally, photo-sensitive cloth, a printed negative, and the sun.

Most of these really only work if you just want to make shirts, not if you have specific designs. Unfortunately, for specific designs some sort of transfer (cut off the extra white?) or something like silk screening are probably your best bets.
